About Duo Flaurimba…
Flaurimba is an innovative and masterful flute/ marimba duo formed by two Belgium based artists – Rebecca Meletiadis (Flute) and Fiona Pui-yee Foo (Marimba).
The members of Flaurimba are active as performers and educators by giving concerts, seminars and workshops. Their unique and splendid style of playing are characterized by a wide range of genres, with a creative vision of combining theatrical elements, dance, improvisation and their own arrangements; from classical to folkloric, from jazz to contemporary, western to Asian music. Duo Flaurimba is exploring the limits of the unique combination of the flute and marimba and shows its huge performing variety to the audience.
Born in Hong Kong, Fiona Pui-Yee FOO obtained her Master in Performance and MaNaMa concert soloist from LUCA School of Arts with greatest distinction under the guidance of Ludwig Albert; and also the highest Performance Fellowship (FTCL) from Trinity College London. She has won in several competitions including 1st prize in European Music Competition (Italy); 1st Prize in Masterplayers International Music Competition (Switzerland), 1st Prize in Yamaha Europe Music Foundation Award, solo laureates in Universal Marimba Competition (Belgium) and HK Concerto Competition. She had performed on various TV shows, radio broadcast and was invited to perform as a soloist for concertos under the baton of world-renowned conductors and orchestra. Fiona is the artistic director of International Hong Kong Percussion Festival and Jury member of the Percussion Competition. She performed extensively across the continents including Austria, Belgium, China (Mainland), Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macao, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey, U.K., and the U.S.A. World-class producer of concert percussion, Adams Musical Instruments and Pearl Drum Europe, endorse Fiona as their solo artist.
Rebecca MELETIADIS, was born in Germany and grew up in Greece. She participated in several competitions there acquiring the 1st price at the ‘Flute Competition’ (2002) and the ‘National Flute Competition’ (2004). On a young age, she was invited to join the ‘Sofia Symphonic Orchestra’ who played at the amphitheatre of Philippi/GR. Rebecca obtained her “Master in Performance” at the LUCA School of Arts/Leuven under the supervision of Berten D’Hollander. She is extending her musical horizons with jazz classes by Stefan Bracaval. She is an active performer (with concerts in Greece, Germany, Belgium, Portugal) with a particular interest in the engagement of flute playing with the improvisatory creativity of her sister, Photini on projects and stage. As a Suzuki Flute teacher, she is a member of the “Suzuki Fluit Vlaanderen” association and has been invited as a jury member several times at the “Jugend Musiziert” competition. She has a passion for teaching since she sees life in it: “I love to help students discover their limits and learn themselves better through music..”. She is teaching the flute at the “International German School of Brussels” and the “European School of Brussels II”.
Het Duo Flaurimba is een vernieuwend en verfrissend ensemble, bestaande uit twee in België residerende artiesten: Rebecca Meletiadis(dwarsfluit) en Fiona Foo (marimba).
Beide musici zijn actief op vele fronten : zowel in educatieve projecten, seminaries, workshops als uiteraard op het concertpodium.
Hun aparte en uiterst persoonlijke stijl uit zich in een kaleidoscoop van uiteenlopende muziekgenres, op creatieve wijze vermengd met theatrale elementen, dans, improvisatie.
In hun eigen arrangementen ontmoeten, doorkruisen en bestuiven klassiek en folk, hedendaags en jazz, Westerse en Oosterse klanken en ritmes elkaar tot een unieke belevenis waarbij het publiek zich geen seconde verveelt.

Apportant un souffle de fraîcheur et innovant, le Duo Flaurimba se compose deux artistes résidants en Belgique: Rebecca Meletiadis et la marimbiste Fiona Foo.
Ces deux musiciennes sont actives tant dans des projets éducatifs, séminaires, ateliers que sur scène bien sûr.
Leur style particulier et personnel se manifeste , de manière créative dans le choix de style musicaux différents et en y mêlant des éléments théâtraux, de danse, d’improvisation.
Leurs propres arrangements font se rencontrer musique classique et folk, contemporaine et jazz. Les sons et les rythmes occidentaux et orientaux s’entremêlent et se fécondent en une expérience unique où le public ne s’ennuie pas une seconde.
